Music from Cascadia’s Frontiers
October 15 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
“The Delgani… has forged a distinctive identity by championing homegrown new music,” says Brett Campbell of Oregon Artswatch. “They keep making classical music new again.”Don’t miss this extraordinary evening of music by Oregon musicians and Cascadia members near and far. Among the dispatches: Latin Grammy winner Yalil Guerra brings us Cuba via Los Angeles in his A Mil Guerras Solo (A Thousand Wars Alone), while Andrew Robinson riffs on the classic dialectic of string quartets and Penn Ph.D. candidate Joshua Hey conjures an otherworldly lens flare from Alpha Centauri. Oregon composers Greg Steinke and Paul Safar join the Delgani to perform in their own works. The dark finale of the evening, the turbulent Sixth Quartet by Portland’s own Tomas Svoboda, was inspired by the struggles of the great Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich.
General: $20 (buys two tickets with an Arts Card from Work for Art), Cascadia Members/Working Artists/Seniors: $10, Students: $5, Children under 12: Free
