Going Boldly in Lake Oswego

Cascadia Composers presents the second annual Going Boldly in Lake Oswego concert, Sunday March 15 at 7p. The concert is free and will be held in the Lake Oswego United Methodist Church sanctuary. The year 2015 marks the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and the program’s featured composers or their works have a direct link to this time period. Included on this concert of chamber music are pieces by Benjamin Britten, Olivier Messiaen, Toru Takemitsu, Georges Moustaki, Ludwig van Beethoven and premieres of two works by West Linn composer, Linda Woody.

Going Boldly performers include LeeAnn McKenna, flute; Kate Petak, harp; Shelley Matthewson, viola; Pollyanna Hancock-Moody, soprano; Signe Lusk, piano; Bob Pearson, percussion; Tamara Still, organ; the Marylhurst University Chorale under the direction of Dr. Justin Smith, and the Arnica Quartet: Shin- young Kwon and Fumino Ando, violins; Charles Noble, viola; Heather Blackburn, cello. The program includes Jubilate Deo, a choral work by English composer Benjamin Britten; Milord by Georges Moustaki, made famous by French singer Edith Piaf; Olivier Messiaen’s Dieu Parmi Nous, from La Nativite du Seigneur; And Then I Knew ‘Twas Wind by Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu, for flute, viola and harp. Two pieces by Linda Woody, Elegy for a Dead Soldier, for choir, and Homesick, for flute, viola and harp will be premiered. Beethoven’s strikingly modern and virtuosic Grosse Fuge for string quartet will close the program.

Going Boldly in Lake Oswego is presented by Cascadia Composers and support has been provided by NACUSA through their local chapter, Cascadia Composers. Support also provided by LOUMC.
